On April 10, 2025, ELIAMEP hosted a meaningful and pivotal discussion on the future of European cinema, as part of the REBOOT research program (Reviving, Boosting, Optimising and Transforming European Film Competitiveness). The event was organized in collaboration with EKKOMED – Creative Greece, which actively participates in shaping national and European film industry policies, contributing to the broader dialogue on the future of the audiovisual sector in Europe.
Under the theme “Film Industry Policies in Europe: Greece as an Institutional Reference Point for Film Promotion and Education”, the discussion focused on the prospects of enhancing the competitiveness of the European film industry, as well as on the challenges it currently faces. Digitalization and social media, the fragmented policy approach within Europe, and the rapid transformation in how younger generations engage with cinema, are shaping a new environment for European filmmaking.
Competitiveness and the need for a unified European film policy emerged as key issues. At the same time, the role of national and institutional infrastructures was highlighted. In this context, Greece presented as a case of dynamic player in the development of policies and initiatives that combine film production with education and the enhancement of film literacy.
The speakers emphasized the importance of audiovisual education not only as a tool for cultivating audiences but also as a driving force for strengthening cultural awareness and empowering young creators. The audience actively participated, enriching the dialogue around policy, education, and film production.
