On 9 December, 2024, at Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, the award ceremony of the 14th International Student Short Film Competition “Did you study… cinema?” took place, in which students from kindergartens, primary, secondary and high schools, from general and special education, as well as second chance schools from Greece and Cyprus participated.
In the 14th Competition for the school year 2023-2024, a total of 149 films participated, including 86 fiction films, 12 animations and 51 documentary films from 163 schools, as well as 54 posters and 32 musical compositions, created by children with the support of their teachers. The aim of this long running and popular, among school community, competition is to give students of all grades and levels the opportunity to express themselves artistically, to become content creators, to familiarize themselves with the “language” of film narrative and to acquire audiovisual education skills.
The competition is co-organized by: Serres Primary Education Directorate, Drama Short Film Festival, the Secretariat General of Communication and Information, the Department of Educational Radiotelevision and Digital Media of the Ministry of Education, the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Greece – Cultural Office – House of Cyprus, and the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center – Creative Greece. It is implemented with the approval of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs of Greece, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth of Cyprus, and the support of the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, in collaboration with the educational programme “I care and I act”.
