EKOME participates in the European Film Market of the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) between 10 and 17 February, promoting Greece as an ideal destination for audiovisual productions and supporting the work of Greek filmmakers reaching out to world film markets.
EKOME presents the successful investment incentives 40% Cash Rebate and 30% Tax Relief, and the upgraded services provided to facilitate audiovisual productions throughout the country thanks to the national network of Film Offices.
In this year’s Berlinale, the Golden Bear is claimed by 18 films, 17 of which have a world premiere, while dozens more films will be screened in the different sections of the Festival.
The Greek film “The city and the city” by Christos Passalis and Syllas Tzoumerkas, which has been supported by the cash rebate program, will have its world premiere in the Official Competition Program “Encounters/Meetings”. The film traverses seven decades of Thessaloniki’s history and captures the life and perils of the Jewish community Thessaloniki.
Greek short films also claim awards: “The Vancouver” by Artemis Anastasiadou, which will be screened as part of the Generation Kplus section and “Memories of a Teenage Storm” by Sofia Georgovasili, which will make its official premiere in the competition section of Generation 14plus.
The 72nd Berlinale takes place under strict safety measures and in hybrid form due to the Covid-19 pandemic. More than 600 accredited professionals will meet in the Agora through the Platform of The Europa Film Market for online collaborations, presentations and actions planned by the organizers.
Meanwhile, from 10 to 16 February, screenings will take place at the Berlinale venues for creators to present their work to the public, and awards will be presented on February 16. Until February 20, there will be repeat screenings of the films in theaters, which will operate with reduced capacity.
Once again, EKOME, with its active presence in one of the biggest European celebrations for cinema, expands networking with professionals from the international audiovisual industry, promotes the strategic advantages of Greece for the creation of audiovisual works and continuously supports domestic productions in their international course.
